Profile

As Collections Manager Karina is responsible for:

  1. Curation of the state collection of fungi, lower plant groups and the vascular flora holdings, specifically specimen mounting, incorporation, databasing and specimen maintenance.
  2. Curation of plant names, including the input and maintenance of plant names on the WA Plant Census (FloraBase).
  3. Lodgement and accessioning of specimens relative to the Herbarium Acquisition Policy.
  4. Loans and Exchange Program including the safe movement of herbarium specimens through Australian and Western Australian border quarantine.
  5. Destructive Sampling Program.
  6. Herbarium building and storage facility: management and maintenance of the facility to ensure the permanent preservation of the specimens in regard to the Integrated Pest Management Plan ensuring the specimens are safe and housed adequately with particular attention to temperature, humidity, fire, insect pest exclusion and visitor access.
  7. Volunteer Program, recruitment and management
  8. Identification Service.
  9. Reference Herbarium, maintenance of the collection and visitor access.
  10. Research interest: Myxomycetes (slime mould) identification and curation.
