My life time work which has been ongoing has been the understanding birds. I have been involved in many programs from captive breeding to recovery programs on birds within Australia and overseas intuitions. I have a very keen interest in any Australian threaten bird species and try to help or assist where ever I can.


Brief CV

  • Tafe qualifications in animal management.
  • 28 years in the zoo industry from Acting Director of conservation to Curator of birds and Australian mammals, to supervisor and keeping. My main role being Curator of birds at the Perth zoo for six years.
  • At DEC I have been assisting other staff on research programs within the science division mainly to do with birds and mammals. Presently researching into feral cats.

Projects

Presently working on the mesopredator program with a team from DEC and AWC (Australian Wildlife Conservancy).Looking at the Sustained introduced predator control in the rangelands. i.e. Cats, dogs and foxes.Collecting data on fauna, invertebrates and feral animals within a joint project with AWC and DEC staff. The research is presently being done on AWC land at Mt. Gibson Station and DEC pastoral leases at Karara and Lochada Stations.Research efforts is being focused

  • examination of Baiting efficiency
  • monitor predator abundance over time
  • Monitor prey abundance

Assisting as required by other DEC staff any bird matters and introduce bird species within WA.
